Founded in the 14th century by Shiin Tokushu, Daianji is a temple of the Tofukuji sect of Rinzai Buddhism. Its all-cypress main hall is said to have been transferred here after acting as the home of renowned merchant Sukezaemon Naya, and contains rooms built in the shoin-zukuri style of sutra study halls and audience rooms. Both the main hall and the interior partition murals - believed to have been painted by students of the Kano school of painting in the early 17th century - are Important Cultural Properties.
